MLGC Leaders in Training Program

At Moose Lake Gospel Camp we believe in training the next generation of leaders to love and serve Jesus and others in practical ways.  Our NEW Leaders in Training (LIT) program will offer a curriculum that combines structured training,, mentorship and practical service to encourage spiritual growth, team work and leadership in action.

We invite all of our previous and new LIT applicants to take a part of a special time of training that will help them grow as leaders in a holistic way.   The program has a focus on self awareness, spiritual disciplines, team building and practical service.  It is not just a week of work but a combination of intentional teaching and instruction, guided discussion, fun activities, team building and spiritual growth.

Common Questions

  1. Does everyone get accepted into the training program?

We will be limiting the amount of applicants each training week.  We want to offer the best quality program as possible, leaving lots of room for individual support to each camper.  All applicants must provide references and desire to be active participants in the program,  If the number of applicants is more than we can receive, we will take into account age and readiness of the camper.

  2. Do all staff have to take training to be a Cabin Leader, LIT at kids camp or camp personall?

Our desire is to have all of our teen volunteers and staff to be trained and mentored prior to serving in leadership roles. The hope is that this will result in a positive experience for each leader which will ultimately foster a further enriched experience for each camper. As this is a new program, there will be a 2 year transition period into this new method of training our future teen volunteers as follows:

Summer 2026 - Training is not mandatory for any past or new LIT’s, cabin leaders or program personnel applicants, but highly recommended for all under the age of 18.

Summer 2027 - All applicants who are in the Jr teen age group will be required to do a week of training before they can serve at any other camps in any capacity.  All Sr Teen applicants are strongly encouraged to complete a week of Sr Teen Training.

Summer 2028 - All applicants who are in the Jr teen age group will be required to do a week of training before they can serve at any other camps in any capacity.  All high school aged applicants must do the Sr Teen training before they can be cabin leaders or any paid position.

  3. Can participants of the LIT program apply to serve at other camps (Jr Teen, Children’s camp, Family Camp) at MLGC?

Yes, Jr LIT participants can apply to serve at children's camp once they have completed a week of training. Sr LIT participants who have completed training are required to serve one week at any other programmed camp as part of their training. (not limited to one)

  4. Will LIT’s be paid to work at other camps when they have finished training?

Active participants in the LIT Programs will not be paid, but will serve as volunteers in other camps.

Sr Teen LIT participants will qualify and be encouraged to apply for a paid position the following summer. Paid positions available for teens include maintenance worker, general camp worker, kitchen helper and camp children’s worker. These positions are limited and are either paid by the camp or Canadian Summer Jobs grants.

  5. What does the cost of the LIT program cover?

We desire to keep the costs of the LIT program as low as possible to allow a higher level of participation. The fee’s of each program covers the costs to run the program including food, accommodations, staffing and a piece of merchandise

  6. Can my teen do the LIT program more than once?

It is our desire to have all of our future teen workers to take part of both the Jr and Sr LIT programs one time before they serve at camp in any capacity.. Campers can participate in each LIT program more than once if they want to, if there is space available. Priority will be given to first time participants in the LIT program.
